Service features
Mobile phone users can call and be called, send and receive SMS and use GPRS, while sailing the seas and oceans. The users’ experience is the same as if they were travelling abroad, using the roaming capabilities of a visited GSM network. In each vessel there is mobile coverage in all public areas and all passenger cabins, literally all areas inside the vessel.
On-Waves broadcasts a dedicated network code for the service, to help end users to easily identify the service. The broadcast network code is “274-08” translated as ‘On-Waves’ (or ‘IS-08’, depending on the age of the mobile used) and displayed on the end user’s handset.
On-Waves can send Welcome SMS messages to the end user’s handset, tailor-made for each operator. All ferries have special announcements and special brochures that clearly announce that users are connected to a maritime service, along with information about higher tariffs of this unique service.
