On-Waves service will be automatically switched-on as soon as the vessel enters international waters. This is usually about 12 nautical miles or in some cases beyond 2 nm from shore, following ITU and GSMA rules and recommendations.
On-Waves hardware installed on board is patented equipment and has been purposely designed and built by On-Waves, to fit on merchant marine vessels.
Calls are routed from the vessel to the terrestrial gateway of your existing VSAT provider and from this point directly to our own GSM or CDMA core network for call processing. In cases where there is no VSAT system installed, On-Waves service may alternatively work through Inmarsat Fleet Broadband or Iridum OpenPort systems.
On-Waves terrestrial links are connected to all major Gateways, both for Satellite connectivity purposes, as well as for International GSM, GPRS/EDGE and CDMA call terminations. All links are redundant.
